Lenny Kravitz
Rocker Lenny Kravitz is set to play Marvin Gaye in a movie about the last few years of the singer’s life. It will be Kravitz’s first leading role, having previously appeared in The Hunger Games earlier this year. The movie will be directed by Julien Temple, who directed the Sex Pistols movie The Great Rock’n’Roll Swindle.

Marvin Gaye was shot to death on March 31, 1984 in Los Angeles by his own father. He had been battling alcohol addiction in the early eighties, and was living in Ostend, Belgium. His second wife, Janis Gaye, has said that she feels “very skeptical” about the project, according to NME.

The productive Lenny Kravitz is also working on a new album, the follow up to Black And White America, which was released last year. Kravitz spoke to Billboard about his new album, tentatively titled Negrophilia, saying that it’s “very funky, very, very raw. Black and White America was very produced. Although it's all natural and organic, it's a very produced record. That's the mode I was in at that time. But (Negrophilia) is a very raw, jagged-edged album.” Perhaps we will finally get that all-funk album that Kravitz has been talking about for years.
