|Neil Young and Kurt Cobain|
As was widely reported at the time, Cobain left behind a note that quoted Young’s lyric, “It’s better to burn out than to fade away,” from Young’s hit, “Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black).” In his new autobiography, Waging Heavy Peace, Young writes that he was trying to reach out to Cobain in the days just prior to the Nirvana frontman’s death. “When he died and left that note, it struck a deep chord inside of me,” Young writes. “It [expletive] with me. I, coincidentally, had been trying to reach him. I wanted to talk to him. Tell him only to play when he felt like it.” Waging Heavy Peace was published this past Tuesday (Sept. 25). Young wrote the memoir throughout 2011.
