Noel Gallagher
As he confirmed last week, former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher will releases his debut solo album Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds on October 17 in the U.K. (a day later in the U.S.).

U.K. newspaper The Sun now reports that Coldplay's as-yet-untitled fifth album is scheduled to come out a week later in a "chart battle." Gallagher is used to chart battles, Oasis having gone head-to-head with rivals Blur back in 1995. And Coldplay famously replaced Oasis at the album summit in 2005 when they released their third album X&Y a week after Oasis' Don't Believe the Truth.

In reality, this is possibly not a real "battle." Gallagher and Coldplay's Chris Martin are friends, and their record companies have possibly decided this is the best way to ensure both parties achieve a debut-week #1.
