The Silencers
Drummer and singer Ron "Byrd" Foster, a member of such prominent Pittsburgh bands as The Silencers, the Iron City Houserockers and Red Hot & Blue, died yesterday of liver cancer in Deltona, Fla., at 61.

The Mount Oliver native started touring with bands at 17 and joined the Igniters in 1968. He played with blues guitar great Roy Buchanan in the '70s before joining The Silencers in 1979. The video for the band's medley "Peter Gunn/Remote Control/Illegal" aired on MTV the day the network debuted in 1981. He went on to play on the final Iron City Houserockers album in 1983, along with performing in R&B bands Red Hot & Blue and Bon Ton Roulet.

In 1991, he relocated to Orlando to join fellow Silencer Warren King, who died of liver cancer last year, as a session player at Kingsnake Recording Studio. They also played in a popular Florida club band called the Midnight Creepers.
